If you have never visited a traditional Norwegian farm, now is the time and Røros is the place. All around Røros are mountain farms, some of them centuries old and still in use, providing visitors with an authentic insight into farming culture.
One of the best-preserved villages in Norway is Vingelen. Rather than being concentrated in a cluster, the more than 30 old farms are spread across a fertile hillside with an expansive southern view. The unpanelled construction dates back more than 250 years; darkened with age, like Røros, it lends the entire community a very special character. Within walking distance up above, there are numerous mountain farms, where animals graze in the summer.
