Storwartz was one of the largest mining areas in the Røros region. Nyberget Mine was in operation between 1650-1717 and 1861-1890. Olav`s Mine, much younger, opened in 1936. Mining technology developed greatly over time - while the extraction of copper ore in Nyberget Mine started with firing, hammer and chisel, Olav`s Mine was mined with pneumatic drill and dynamite.
A guided tour in The Olav`s Mine is an hour long guided tour of Røros` mining history. The tour includes 2 mines: Nyberget and Olav`s Mine, a walking tour 50m below the surface and 500m into the mine to "Bergmannshallen", the Miners` Hall.
